help reading knitting pattern?!?

i bought 12mm needles and really Thick Yarn to make an earflap hat. Instructions to knit the hat came free with the yarn, but i’ve been having some trouble reading knitting (im a beginner) .
so the part that im suck for is this:
[Kfb] 4 times, k1. 9 sts.
plz help and Thx for reading!
thank you for the help! the instructions just told me to use a pair of size 12mm knitting needles. Thanks again for the help! =]

kfb means knit front and back. They want you to do it 4 times. Then you knit 1.

9 sts is the number of stitches you should have when you finish the row. Each kfb makes 2.

It just occurred to me: did the instructions tell you you needed double point and circular needles? Hats are usually worked “in the round” which requires special needles, not the regular long straight ones.
