Hand Knitting Patterns

Trouble Knitting – help?
This is what I’m working on. But everytime when I get to the end of row 2, I do not have enough st. to K2.
So, is it something I’m doing wrong or is the direction not right in some way. I got it from this website:
http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/afghans/cables/cl7.htm
SSK and pass = SSK, return the resulting stitch to left-hand needle and with point of right-hand needle pass the next stitch over it and off needle, then sl the stitch back to right-hand needle
Pattern:
Cast on 44 sts
Row 1 (WS): P9, K2, P10, K2, P10, K2, P9
Row 2: K2, P2, K1, (YO, K1) 4 times, P2, K6, SSK and pass, YO, K1, YO, P2, YO, K1, YO, SL1, K2tog, PSSO, K6, P2, K1, (YO, K1) 4 times, P2, K2
Your answer are welcome. Thank You!
You do knit exactly 44 stitches on Row 2.
On row one, you either knit or purl each stitch, no increases or decreases. so you should have 44 stitches at the end.
On row two, here’s the count of the 44 stitches after each instruction is completed:
K2 = 2
P2 = 4
K1 = 5
(YO, K1) 4 times = 9 (plus 4 YOs)
P2 = 11 (plus 4 YOs)
K6 = 17 (plus 4 YOs)
SSK and Pass = 20 (plus 4 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
YO = 20 (plus 5 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
K1 = 21 (plus 5 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
YO = 21 (plus 6 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
P2 = 23 (plus 6 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
YO = 23 (plus 7 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
K1 = 24 (plus 7 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
YO = 24 (plus 8 YOs, minus 2 sts decreased)
SL 1, K2tog, PSSO = 27 (plus 8 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
K6 = 33 (plus 8 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
P2 = 35 (plus 8 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
K1 = 36 (plus 8 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
(YO, K1) 4 times = 40 (plus 12 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
P2 = 42 (plus 12 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
K2 = 44 (plus 12 YOs, minus 4 sts decreased)
When you complete this row, you have worked the 44 stitches from the first row, you have added 12 YOs, and you have decreased 2 stitches from the “SSK and pass” and 2 stitches from the “SL 1, K2 tog, PSSO [pass slipped stitch over the K2tog].” You should have a total of 52 stitches going into the next row.
By the way, the two different decrease stitches are supposed to be mirror images of each other. They both sort of end up looking like this: /|\ In the first one, the “pass” stitch comes from left to right (and slants to the right) and in the second one, the PSSO stitch goes from right to left (and slants to the left).

ALT Fiber: 25 Projects for Knitting Green with Bamboo, Soy, Hemp, and More $1.58 Like any modern, responsible citizen or fervent DIYer, you’ve probably been using salvaged materials for years. But did you know that the fastest growing trend in knitting and crochet takes reduce-reuse-recycle to a whole new level? In Alt Fiber, popular craft author, teacher, and blogger Shannon Okey presents more than twenty-five patterns for jackets, skirts, sweaters, wraps, socks, bags, and more using nonallergenic plant fibers. And these aren’t just any fibers . . . from the seaweed-derived Seacell yarn, which transmits vitamins and nutrients to your skin when you wear it, to soy-based yarns made from tofu manufacturing waste, alternative fibers are good for the environment, easy to care for, and more available than ever. Since these fibers don’t work up or drape like wool or cotton yarns, Shannon channels her enthusiasm and expertise into teaching crafters of all skill levels about the properties of alt fibers, how to incorporate them into existing patterns, and even how to hand-dye them. And with contemporary designs contributed by Knit Brit’s Andi Smith, Acme Knitting Company’s Jillian Moreno, Julie Armstrong Holetz, Sivia Harding, Laura Chau, Kate Jackson, Keri Williams, and other up-and-coming designers, Alt Fiber is a must-have addition to overstuffed stash bags everywhere. Whether you make a pine wrap, a bamboo coat, a kenaf bag, or a corn T-shirt, knitting green has never been so easy. |
